Experience record :
1972 - 1975 Volunteered as a land surveyor for a development scheme
in Ivory Coast, West Africa. Work included tacheometric
surveys of rural settlements, village development
planning, training of local surveyors.
1975 Worked as a (free lance) surveyor on a gas
pipeline project in southern Belgium. Work
included setting out and computations.
1975 - 1976 Worked as a hydrographic surveyor on a trailing hopper
dredger project in Brazil. Work included hydrographic
surveys using Elac echosounder, Toran positioning
(hyperbolic). Maintenance and regular calibrations of the
positioning system, drafting and volume computations.
Survey assistance at diving and blasting operations.
1976 - 1978 Worked as chief surveyor on the Mina Sulman harbour
project in Bahrain (hopper dredging, cutter dredging,
reclamation). Work included setting up of a survey
department, guiding expatriate and local surveyors,
carrying out hydrographic surveys, landsurveys and volume
computations. Equipment: Raytheon echosounder, Toran
positioning, sextant positioning.
1978 Head of survey department for Nigerian dredging
activities in the Warri-Port Harcourt region. Work
included guiding local survey teams, mainly doing
hydrographic survey work using Raytheon echosounder and
range finder and setting out work using T0 boussole,
T16 and T2 theodolites. Worked further as a chief
surveyor on a pile driving/ construction project in Port
Harcourt, Nigeria. Work included setting up a digitized
control system for pile driving survey work.
1979 - 1980 Worked as specialist in the development of survey systems
on the mat laying pontoon Cardium in the Eastern Scheldt
Storm Surge Barrier project. Work included developing a
scanning sonar system and carrying out several test
programmes in relation with this sonar system.
During this period, also research was carried out for
developing a pressure depth measurement system
(including test programmes) for the same vessel.
1980 - 1983 Worked as head of survey department in large dredging
and reclamation projects in Damman and Jubail (Saudi
Arabia). Work included guiding several expatriate and
local survey teams, doing hydrographic and landsurvey
work. Setting up a computerized system of volume
calculations for the reclamation areas. Carrying out
several site investigations along the eastern coast of
Saudi Arabia. Setting up horizontal survey control
networks, using sun- and star observations for azimuth
measurements. Equipment used: Atlas Deso and Raytheon
echosounders, Trisponder positioning, Spectra Physics
rotating laser.
1983 - 1985 Worked as head of survey department in Holland-based
head office of Bilfinger + Berger Dredging.
Acted as a project manager for two site investigation
projects in Lebanon (1983). Work included setting up
and measuring a horizontal survey control network,
geophysical (shallow seismic) surveys and site
investigation (vibrocoring). Equipment used: EG&G
subbottom profiler, using boomer and sparker, Klein
side scan sonar, Raytheon echosounder, Trisponder
positioning.
Acted as surveyor and client's representative on
a site-investigation project in Tunisia (1983), using
Trisponder positioning and Raytheon echosounder.
Worked as a hydrographic surveyor on a site investiga-
tion project in Gizan, Red Sea, Saudi Arabia (1984),
using Raytheon echosounder and sextant positioning.
1985 - 1986 Resources manager with Osiris bv.
In charge of the co-ordination of all personnel- and
equipment resources of the organization.
1986 Acted as consultant on dredging works in Antigua, West
Indies. Work included carrying out hydrographic surveys
as an independent surveyor, advising a shipping
transport company (Mammoet Shipping) about the
accesibility of a site.
1986 to 1992 Operations manager with Osiris bv.
In overall charge of all operations of the organization.
1988 Chief surveyor on a land-survey project Abu Dhabi,
U.A.E. Work included setting out the border between the
U.A.E and Oman over a mountain range. Also construction
of border pillars in the mountains and in the desert on
the border with Saudi Arabia.
1989 Clients representative on tunnel construction survey,
Storebelt, Denmark.
In charge of supervision over the hydrographic survey
work, done by the dredging contractor.
Chief surveyor on a dredging and reclamation project in
Surat, India. Work included the insurvey of the
reclamation area and was limited to the initial period
(setting up of survey system).
1991 In addition to the operations management, in charge of
the Quality Assurance within the organization. Work
included setting up a system, liason with the Q.A.
department of the parent company (Boskalis Westminster
Dredging Co.) and guiding the production of procedures
and quality documents.
1992 - 1994 General Manager of the Osiris branch office in
